Privacy Policy

Last updated October 28, 2026

The short version: Moderate has no account and no server. We never see what you log. Your data stays on your iPhone, except that it syncs to your own iCloud account if you're signed in to iCloud, and goes to your own Health app if you turn on Apple Health.

What Moderate stores

Moderate stores what you enter: the drinks you log (name, type, volume, alcohol percentage, time and any note), the days you mark alcohol-free, your Quick Add drinks, and your settings, such as limits, units and reminder times. This is kept on your device using Apple's SwiftData. A copy of your totals is shared with Moderate's widgets on the same device so they can show your progress.

What Moderate doesn't do

Optional features

iCloud sync. If you're signed in to iCloud, your drinks, alcohol-free days, Quick Add drinks, units and limits sync through your own private iCloud database to other devices signed into the same Apple ID. This is handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy; we can't see it. To keep your data on one device, turn off Moderate under Settings → your name → iCloud.

Apple Health. If you turn on Save to Apple Health, each drink is saved to Health as Alcoholic Beverages, and edits and deletions in Moderate update Health too. You can revoke access at any time in the Health app. Drinks already saved stay in Health until you delete them there.

Reminders. If you turn on reminders, Moderate schedules local notifications on your device. They're not sent through any server.

Siri and Shortcuts. When you use Moderate by voice, Siri handles the request under Apple's privacy terms, and Moderate answers on your device.

Deleting your data

Use Delete All Drinks in Moderate's Settings to remove every logged drink. If Save to Apple Health is on, this removes them from Health as well. Deleting the app removes everything it stored on the device. If you use iCloud sync, a copy stays in your iCloud account until you delete it in the app or from iCloud. Drinks saved to Apple Health stay in Health until you delete them there.

Children

Moderate is intended for adults of legal drinking age and isn't directed at children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date. Moderate is open source, so you can also check what the app does in its source code.
